Op ed by debora Ewing, Igneus Editor
Ted Vaca lives in Denver, Colorado. His inclusion in the Igneus constellation, though, began in Ventura, California many years ago. Throughout it all, he’s been dedicated to the spoken word. Ted is part of the Igneus Press In-House performers who helped launch George Keenen’s RECORD.
Ted recently wrote a poignant lament on behalf of those trapped, suffering, dying in Gaza (once again) under the stewardship of Netanyahu’s IDF. Everyone on our current iteration of Earth is aware (if not much more) of the religious-backed animosity behind the struggle over this piece of land. Not everyone is aware that Islam and Judaism honor the same G-d, the G-d of Israel, the same origin as Christianity. Not everyone can navigate the complex intertwining of devotion and murder. Over and again, it’s left to the poets to explain.
South Broadway Ghost Society chose to publish Ted’s piece, ‘A Chorus of Mourning Echoing Out Toward Mecca’ on their website, as well as on a broadside accompanied by art from WEFAIL. We reprint the broadside here with the permission of soboghoso.org. You can download & print your own copy here.
